The SKBC Holiday 2011 to Scotland
Saturday 3rd - Saturday 10th
Acharn Courtyard, Killin, Perthshire.
Acharn Courtyard lies in the heart of the Scottish Highlands near the village of Killin in Perthshire. The holiday cottages are situated in and around a secluded courtyard. The accommodation units are 4-Star rated and there is a large communal area. This room is located away from the accommodation units so it will not disturb those seeking peace and quiet and it has a fully equipped kitchen and cooking facilities to cater for a large group, together with an indoor barbecue area and a 'stock-your-own' bar.
The grounds contain a tennis court and fishing ponds, where fly fishing (only) with barbless hooks is permitted on the basis of "catch & release" with the use of nets when landing fish. The fishing ponds are tranquil areas, perfect for picnics or just sitting, and the surrounding hills and woods can be explored directly from the cottages. River Fishing is available by permit through the local Newsagent
The town of Killin is a 15 minute walk from the cottages. In Killin there is a Folk Museum, pub, cafe, restaurant and shops.
Please note that Acharn Courtyard is 485 miles from the Barge using the M6, so you may wish to split your journey with a stay in a Hotel going up and coming back.
Going up there on Friday night 2 Sept there is a meeting point at the Travelodge in Preston Chorley PR6 7JB (£29 in advance). Either stay there or meet there at around 11am on Saturday morning.
Coming back on Saturday night 10 Sept there is a meeting point at the Southbound Travelodge on the M1 at Wakefield Woolley Edge WF4 4LQ (£29 in advance). Again, you can either stay there Saturday night or meet there at around 11am on Sunday morning.
