5th - 12th September 2009. SKBC Holiday. The Silver Knights Bike Club spent their week away in North Wales, on the Horse Shoe Pass between Llangollen and the Ponderosa Café.

The week started chilled out.

Campbell celebrated his Birthday.

There were visits to local Castles.

Jackie got in some early drinks in preparation for her wedding.

The ride outs were enjoyable with great surrounding scenery.

And the week finished with a quiet party for Karen in the local pub.

28th - 31st August 2009. V Twin Rally. Perky & Ev, Martin & Elaine, Morgan, Keown, Barry & Ez, Paul & Karen and all of the Sherberts - Mick & Sue, Mark and Luke - went to the V Twin Rally in the New Forrest.

The Classic Display dragged local bike shop proprietor and ex-racer Julian Soper out of retirement to do some laps on the old Hadliegh Custom race bike. Of course, the SKBC where there to show some encouragement.

12th - 28th June 2009: Euro Tour. Perky & EV, Paul & Karen, BEL & Karen, Campbell and Noddy took five bikes through eight Countries - France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany and Italy for 17 nights and 2,650 miles.

Friday 12 June

Met at the Barge Public House and rode to Guines, France, via Euro Tunnel - Approx 100 miles

Saturday 13 June

After stopping to fix Noddy's rear brake, we rode through Belgium to Larochette, Luxemburg - Approx 250 miles

Sunday 14 - 16 June

Through Luxembourgh into Germany and back into France where we got caught up with the FFMC who were protesting at plans to make some forest roads a "No Motorcycle" zone. The English accents attracted the local the television cameras where we interviewed us for our opinions! It was nice meeting those guys and wish them luck in the campaign. It would be a real shame if this sort of thing was to be allowed to happen. After a good chat and a coffee we were back onto the bikes and heading back into Germany to Bad Liebenzell, Germany - Approx 200 miles

With three nights here it was out for a quick ride around the area and then take the opportunity to catch the local train service into a few of the local villages and leave the bikes behind.

Wednesday 17 June

On through Germany and stopping off to visit The World's Largest Cuckoo Clock on the way. It was actually a small house converted into a clock, and the cuckoo looked more like a vulture and would more than likely scare small children. Then back on our way to Bavaria, Germany - Approx 130 miles

Thursday 18 June

Starting in Germany and off through Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and arriving at the Villa at Casa Tre Dimore, Colico, Italy - Approx 180 miles

Friday was an interesting day and involved a private tour of the Moto Guzzi museum, and for John a meeting with Moto Guzzi's top manaemnet and a full rebuild and new bodywork. How many other companies do you think would spare five engineers for four hours just because they love their bikes so much?

Into the local supermarket to stock up for the evening. This is the first time the real Italian culture of waving you arms about and shouting a lot had surfaced. Apparently it translated into "could you weigh your vegetables before you bring them to the check out, please", but without the "please".

Saturday 20 June

Bel & Karen took a quick blast down the Motorway to the Hotel Major in Rimini, Italy - Approx 275 miles

Sunday was spent at Misano World Circuit for the San Marino World Superbike races. It was a good day for the Brits, with Shakey, Carl Crutchlow, Johnny Rea and Eugene Laverty (yes, I know they are Irish) doing us proud.

Monday 22 June

Back up the Motorway again and back to the Villa at Colico, Italy - Approx 275 miles. A dip in the pool to unwind and then a BBQ and beers as the evening Sun set across Lake Como.

Tuesday was the planned ride over the Stelvio Pass. When the Top Gear crew went there they were complaining of a lack of air-conditioning in their cars. Not this time. Going up the pass, the light rain started, the temperature dropped some more and it became a full on blizzard with visibility down to a few feet. A total run out of 250 miles, but nearly 10 hours in the saddle led to take out Pizzas in the evening.

Wednesday was spent sitting around the pool in the Sun before a ride down into Colico Square for the last meal in Italy.

Thursday 25 June

Heading back into Switzerland and across the Alps the pace picked up a bit, stopping just to throw snow balls at each other. Stopping at the bottom to regroup, when Paul pulled up it looked like a blown oil seal in the forks. On closer inspection it was a pin prick hole in the brake hose leaking fluid all over the front tyre when ever the front brake leaver was pulled hard. You have never seen anyone go so white so quickly when he realised how he had been riding just a few minutes earlier.

There was nothing we could do there and then so it was onto Interlaken, Switzerland - Approx 170 miles.

Friday 26 June

Up early and a short ride to a fantastic bike shop for repairs. The GS was then handed back, along with a repair certificate stating that it has been repaired/modified but still conforms to CE legistration! It was then off in the pouring rain to Rougemont, France - Approx 130 miles

Saturday 27 June

Riding across France on some beautiful roads there were no cars or people for miles. Arriving at Berny Riverie, France - Approx 250 miles. It was only 6pm, so it was off for beers, then to the on-site bar which was doing a two-for-one happy hour!

Sunday 28 June

Back through the Euro Tunnel and on to Barge Pub for the last drink of the trip together - Approx 180 miles

Taken from the local Echo News Paper ...

A man with only months to live has fulfilled a lifelong ambition to lead a convoy of bikers on a ride across Essex.

Cerebral palsy sufferer Dean Youngman, from Great Tey, was diagnosed with a brain tumour just after Christmas.

Yesterday the 53-year-old motorcycle fanatic led more than 150 bikers from the White Hart, Little Waltham, near Chelmsford, to the 127 Diner, on the A127 outside Wickford.

Riders from across Essex joined the run, astride everything from trials bikes to Harleys to modern sports bikes to scooters.

Dean said: “I love motorbikes and first started going on trikes about three years ago. I don’t know how many more rides I’m going to get, so this is really important to me. I had no idea there would be so many bikes. I want to thank everyone.”

Dean used to live independently in Clacton, but has now moved in with his sister, Kay Wiggins and her husband, Pete.

Mrs Wiggins said: “Every day is a bonus for Dean, particularly when they’re like this."

“There must be more than 150 bikes here, and who knows how many horsepower?”

Dean has been a keen wheelchair basketball player, at various times worked at the University of Essex and Colchester Institute.

Dean with sister, Kay Wiggins

Sadly, Dean passed away shortly after his last ride.

A few things about Bike Week: Americans love America, Americans love Harley Davidsons, Americans don't filter, Americans build awsome custom bikes, in Amercia Harley Davidsons make great sense and make a truley addictive sound.

Most of the bikes there are Harley Davidsons, the rest, for some strange reason, seem to be Hayubusas?

He embodied everything good and bad that we all love about motorcycling. Wild and reckless, Knievel more than anyone was able to convey the freedom and exhilaration riding a motorcycle brought. If ever there was a man that was truly fearless, it was Evel Knievel.

"All the money in the world can't buy your way into heaven, it can't buy your way out of hell, it was made to be spent right here. And I'm gonna have the best clothes, best boots, best diamonds, best cars, trucks, motorcycles, booze and women on the face of this earth, just as long as I can keep going."

Some of the Highlights were the "Coast to Coast" run, the Ayre run and a very drunk Friday (all of Friday!).

Campbell's GSXR is now looking for a new gearbox after a minor explosion on the way home.

August Sat 11 2007: The Weavy Stilsons' House Warming Party After a long search the Weavy Stilsons moved into their dream house and invited us all along to help wreck it.

August 3rd - 5th 2007: Brands Hatch WSB Another great weekend. BEL & Fluffy camped next to "Haga Man". The Poo Boys played on Saturday night. The sun came out on Sunday; James Toseland sung the National Anthem to 126,000 people and then backed it up with a double win. Great to see a British Rider conquering the world. Good luck next year in MotoGP!

Camping for 3 days on the way down to the Villa, and then 4 days camping on the way back, including meeting Hugo from Holland, a swim in the Mediterranean and many meals and drinks. 2200 miles and about a stone each later they were back at the Barge.

May 27th 2007: Fluffy's Birthday BBQ. The weather was terrible. Freddy built the BBQ but is was never used as the heavans opened (Silverstone WSB was a washout). The beer flowed into the night and Fluffy got to blow out her candles

May 21st 2007: Track Day. Jason and Noddy met up at Snetterton for a track day. Rumour has it - after a few beers - that they were both lapping quicker than the Superbikes the day before!

May 17th-20th 2007: Snetterton BSB. BEL, Fluffy, Garry, Noddy, Paul, Karen (and Matt) went to BSB at Snetterton Race Way near Thetford for a chilled out weekend. Camped just a few feet from the track and woken up in the morning by the sound of KTM SuperDukes thundering around. The weather was blustery but the rain held off and the sun even made a brief appearance on Race Day

May 1st 2007: The Barge Shut Down. The Barge has been bought out and shut for "refurbishment". No one is really sure what this means at the moment. We are temporarily meeting at The Boar's Head in Herongate every Wednesday until further notice.

April 20th-23rd 2007: MCN Live! Skegness. BEL, Fluffy, Garry, Michelle, Jamie, and Woo & Friends went to MCN Live at Skegness. At the end of 4 days of drunken large-ing it up, Woo had to be taken back to her Chalet by ambulance and Michelle looked like she had been beaten up by Frank Bruno.

James Toseland's band Crash headlined one night and the guy is a real star. A True Brit and Patriot. If he doesn't win the World Championship this year it won't be for lake of trying.

April 9th 2007: Brands Hatch BSB. A few of the Knights spent the day at Brands Hatch in Kent watching the British Superbikes.

April 7th 2007: Pauls 40th BBQ. Well, Big Grumpy Paul has reached 40. This was celebrated by all by holding a BBQ at his house. Freddie now has a regular slot as Head Chef.

April 5th 2007: Bar Lambs. In a trial run for our 25th Aniversary Party in September, a few of the Knights & Friends went down to Bar Lambs to see the band we were hiring. 18th March 2007: Pioneer Run. Don, BEL, Ivor, Jason, Sherman, Sid and Eddie went to Brighton for the Pioneer Run. A leisurley ride down and Fish & Chips in the Seagull Restraunt on the Sea Front before an "every-man-for-him-self" type ride home.

March 2007: Gnome Goes Farming. Out for a gentle breakfast run, poor old Gnome ended up in a field. Bill said "the sily bastard went straight on ...."

8th March 2007: New Memebers. Barry and Ynez have become members of the SKBC. Welcome to them both.

18th Feb 2007: Breakfast Run. The first breakfast run of the year went smoothly. The cafe was closed and everyone ended up eating in Tescos!

9th Feb 2007: SKBC AGM. Eddie read the Treasurers Report. Clubs finaces are healthy with no major outstanding debts.

Eddie and Paul are still trying to arrange setting up a more modern Bank Account, and it may then be possible to set up a standing order or electronic payment method which may help people keep on top of their Subs etc. Just £4 per month will cover the cost of your membership and keep you on top of other events, such as the BMF/ Tail End/Elephants Party etc.

The committee remained unchanged:
Chairman Simon Berrecloth (BEL)
General Secretary Yvonne Buxton (Bongee)
Treasurer Eddie Bryant (Rock Steady)
Assistant Treasurer Lee Davis
Rally Secretary Paul Skinner

Club Subs remained at £12 per year, which will now be added to your account. Please either write your cheque out as soon as you can, or contact Eddie and arrange a way to pay off what you owe. Try and remember that you have had the benefit of the Club paying for you, whether it was the Tail End or Elephants Party tickets. Please try and make arrangements to pay for it.

The Club membership was reviewed and now stands at 26 members. This takes into the next bracket for BMF Club affiliation. Paul will contact the BMF and upgrade us to the next level.

Three potential new members were identified, Barry, Ez and Russell. Barry and Ez will be put forward for membership. Russell was deferred for a year until more members get to know him.

It now seems almost certain that the Barge will be closing down and reopening as a restaurant only. The present landlord of the Barge has invited us to meet at his other Pub, The Boar in Herongate. This is located on the road off of the A127 at the Halfway House heading towards Braintree, and will be tried before any permanent decision is made. There is still a concern that children are bared from 8.00pm, and other locations will need to be considered.

After comprehensively thrashing the IEMCC last year, The Club will not have a stand at the BMF this year. Any member wishing to attend the rally can still purchase tickets through the Club at £25 each.

There was a lot of interest in going to BSB at Snetterton. Weekend tickets will be £26 in advance (£49 on the gate) and £15 to camp. Children under 12 are free. Camping beside the track and free access to the pits.

This year is our 25th Anniversary and it was decided to look into holding a party. Noddy has volunteered to be the Party co-ordinator and has started making arrangements.

BEL will be taking orders for 25th Anniversary t-shirts, sweatshirts etc within the next few weeks.

The Club Holiday has been booked for Fawcett Mill, Cumbria on 18th - 25th August. As Eelaine is funding this, she is taking deposits now. Total cost will be in the region of £125 - £140 for the full week, but you need to book and pay upfront to guarantee a place.

Check the Silver Knights Web Site for other events or to enter up coming events and parties.
